Turkish steel exports fell by 7.3 percent

Today, the Association of Turkish Exporters Steel (CIB) summed up the results of the past year. According to the Association, compared with 2012, in 2013, the exports of Turkish steel products decreased by 7.3 percent and reached 18.4 million metric tons. In turn, the income of Turkish steelmits from supplies to foreign countries decreased by 10.6 percent, amounting to 13.9 billion US dollars.

It is important to note that in December last year, compared with the same period in 2012, the volumes of Turkish steel exports fell by 3.9 percent, while income decreased by 3.5 percent. Such depressing indicators were achieved contrary to all the efforts of Turkish manufacturers to promote their goods in new markets.

So, despite the beginning of deliveries to Iraq, Yemen, Thailand and some countries of southern Europe, 2013 was still completed with losses. This situation is associated with a decrease in supplies to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Canada and Singapore, whose markets were of great importance for Turkish manufacturers of steel products.

In addition to this, Namik Ekitsy, holding the post of Chairman of CIB, said that the export drop was associated with other factors, including anti -dispensing duties introduced by the US authorities, the consequences of the Arab spring, the US and the EU sanction, as well as a low increase in demand for steel products in the United States and European countries.

According to Empress, in 2014, the situation of Turkish manufacturers became difficult. Nevertheless, the situation may improve and therefore exports can increase to 18.5 million tons.
