In the United States, steel production is growing

The loading coefficient of production capacities of metallurgical plants in the United States amounted to 76.1 percent last week, compared with 74 percent of the week earlier. At the same time, last year the power load coefficient was 74.4 percent.

In total, in the United States, the production of raw steel last week amounted to about 1.82 million tons, compared with 1.77 million tons released a week earlier. Production in the Southern District was estimated at 607,000 tons, compared with 569,000 tons of week earlier. Most of the products of raw steel are produced in the area of ​​the Great Lakes, namely in the Indiana and the Chicago area. The production of the countries in the area of ​​the great lakes amounted to 666,000 tons per week.

The volume of production of steel of US plants this year is 0.6 percent higher compared to the same period last year. The enterprises produced about 1.81 million tons of steel in the first week of January last year, and in 2014 the production reached more than 1.82 million tons.

According to the American Institute of Iron, and in December 2013, the import of steel products fell by 17 percent to 2320 thousand tons. In total, in 2013, the United States imported about 31.9 tons of steel. Last year, imports of steel covered the fifth share of a market of about 21 percent.
