Mexico hits record steel production in 2013

According to the World Steel Association Worldsteel, Mexico's steel production reached 18 million 400 thousand tons in 2013, up almost 2 percent from 2012. The growth of metallurgical production took place against the backdrop of a general decline in the Mexican economy.

The country's largest steel company, AHMSA, has set its new historical record of 4 million 156 thousand tons of crude steel.

Thanks to the efforts of metallurgists, Mexico ranked 13th among the countries - the largest steel producers in the world in 2013.

Let us remind you that China, Japan, USA, India and Russia are in the top five, while Ukraine closes the top ten countries with the largest steel production in the world.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Economy of Mexico completed an investigation into the import of steel flat products from Russia and Ukraine for the period from 2010 to 2012. As a result, evidence of damage to the Ukrainian and Russian imports for the country's economy was revealed. Mexico introduced countervailing duties on rolled metal products from Russia in the amount of 36.8 percent, from Ukraine - 60.1 percent.
