Hyundai Motor plans to double its use of light and high-strength steel in its vehicles.
According to sources close to the management of the concern, the first car made with more high-strength and light steel will be the new Sonata sedan, which is scheduled for release in March this year.
It is estimated that the new Sonata sedans will be about half of high-strength and lightweight steel. At the same time, the "lightest" and at the same time "steel" Hyundai car is the luxury sedan Genesis, whose latest modification is 40 percent made of high-strength steel of the latest type. Note that for the average car of the Korean automaker, this figure is 21 percent.
In addition to this, it is worth noting that the creation of a new brand of high-strength and light industrial steel is the result of the work of specialists from the Hyundai auto concern, as well as its Hyundai Steel division, aimed at developing high-strength and light metal alloys, the use of which can significantly reduce the weight of the car.
Thanks to the use of the aforementioned industrial steel, this year the weight of the newest cars of the Korean auto giant will decrease by 10 percent. This circumstance will allow motorists not only to enjoy driving, but also significantly save on fuel.
At the same time, according to one of the sources close to the leadership of the Korean automaker, the new steel developed by specialists from Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Steel will not be supplied to other automakers. It follows from this that the innovative development will be used only in the production of Hyundai vehicles.
