The European Parliament has determined a plan for the development of European metallurgy

The European Parliament adopted with a huge majority the resolution on the EU Action Plan for the Competitiveness and Sustainable Development of the Iron and Steel Industry in Europe, calculated until 2030.

Parliamentarians recognize that there must be a real balance between environmental policy and industrial competitiveness. They recognize that the steel sector is the backbone of value-added generation by the European industry and is of strategic importance to several large European industries such as transport, construction, mechanical engineering, household appliances, energy and defense. Therefore, parliament urges states to support the strategic development of key steel industries using these provisions.

In order to protect jobs within the EU, GDP growth of at least 20 percent by 2020 is required. In particular, take into account that the increase in energy prices makes EU production uncompetitive on the world market.

In environmental and energy policy until 2030, actions must be technically and economically feasible for EU industry. The best executors of an environmental program should not have any direct or indirect additional costs associated with climate recovery policies.

Do not apply reduction factors to sectors that do not use carbon dioxide abatement technologies. At the same time, offsetting the cost of general electricity surcharges for energy-intensive industries that should be competitors outside the EU. The Member of the European Parliament is also concerned about the consequences of the correction factor even for the enterprises with the most efficient installations in Europe.
