The Zaporizhzhya Metallurgical Plant Zaporizhstal, a member of Rinat Akhmetov's Metinvest group, in 2013 reduced natural gas consumption by 29 percent to 236 million cubic meters. This was reported by the press center of the plant.
Such significant energy savings became possible due to the modernization of equipment and the introduction of pulverized coal injection of fuel (CPF) into the blast furnace. The introduction of the PCI allowed last year to completely abandon the use of natural gas in the blast furnace production of Zaporizhstal.
“The plant not only increases its competitiveness, but also makes a real contribution to solving an important macroeconomic task of Ukraine for the rational use and conservation of energy resources,” said Rostislav Shurma, General Director of Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works.
