Within the framework of cooperation of the Ukrainian Center for Steel Construction (USSS) and the Steel Construction Institute, U.K. (SCI) in 2014 a series of technical publications will be issued in the area of steel structure design according to the Eurocodes .
The entry into force of the European standards for the design of building structures (Eurocodes and national annexes) from July 2014 will increase the requirements for high-quality training of specialized specialists. As noted at the round table held on February 4, organized by the USCC, Ukraine has no experience in designing according to Eurocodes, and for their effective application in practice, it is necessary to solve a number of issues related to the retraining of practical engineers and training of students. To solve these problems, the USCC has planned a number of events in 2014 in the field of informing and training participants in the design process on the best European practices and innovative solutions in the field of steel construction.
A series of 5 technical publications jointly with SCI will include work on the following topics:
- Fundamentals of design of steel structures of buildings according to Eurocodes.
- Design of steel structures of buildings according to Eurocodes. Examples of calculations.
- Design of steel frames for medium-rise buildings according to Eurocodes.
- Design of light steel thin-walled structures (LSTC) in accordance with Eurocode 3.
- Design of fire protection for buildings with a steel frame.
“These publications are the result of many years of scientific research and technical developments at the UK Steel Construction Institute,” says Roman Kurashev, Managing Director of the USCC. - Their release in Ukraine will allow domestic designers, engineers and architects to adopt the best European experience in creating real estate projects. A number of works will be in the nature of a methodological manual - they will be supplemented with working examples in accordance with our national annexes to the Eurocode ”.
The planned publications will be a continuation of the work of the Ukrainian Center for Steel Construction on the production of technical literature for specialists in the construction industry. The first edition, which was published with the support of the USCC, was the guide "Fire protection of steel structures", released last year and widely distributed among professionals in the construction industry and technical educational institutions.
Recall that at the end of January last year, USSS announced the signing of an agreement with SCI, the main goal of which is to establish a strategic partnership between organizations on scientific and technological development in the field of steel construction.
