World steel production in January 2014 amounted to 130 million tonnes

World Steel Association Worldsteel reported the results of the steel industry in 65 member countries in January 2014. According to the published data, world steel production remained at the level of the previous month and amounted to 129.783 million tons of steel, which is 0.4 percent less than in January 2013.

The top ten steel-producing countries in January are as follows: China (61.573 million tons, a decline of 3.2 percent), Japan (9.401 million tons, an increase of 6.1 percent), the United States (7.328 million tons, a drop of 0.5 percent), India (6.954 million tons, at the level of January 2013), South Korea (6.040 million tons, an increase of 1.9 percent), Russia (5.935 million tons, an increase of 4.1 percent), Germany (3.663 million tons, an increase of 2.2 percent), Turkey (2.829 million tons, a drop of 0.9 percent), Brazil (2.738 million tons, a drop of 1.4 percent) and Ukraine ( 2,490 million tons, a drop of 13.5 percent).

The use of metallurgical capacities for the month increased by 0.2 percentage points and amounted to 74.4 percent.
