US Commerce Department officials said Friday they have launched an anti-dumping investigation against wire rod from China. According to the US Department of Commerce, China has significantly lowered the price of this metal product.
An investigation was launched on behalf of ArcelorMittal USA LLC, Nucor Corporation, Charter Steel, Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel and Gerdau Ameristeel, which signed a collective complaint about dumping by Chinese suppliers.
In three years, imports of wire rod from China have grown from 144 tons in 2011 to 614 thousand tons in 2013, the above-mentioned companies said in a statement.
According to the US Department of Commerce, in 2013, the value of all Chinese wire rod exports reached $ 313 million. Thus, these steel products were sold in the United States for approximately $ 500 per ton, with delivery.
The US International Trade Commission plans to make a preliminary decision on March 17 and introduce restrictive duties from April 28.
Recall that last week, the US Department of Commerce made a preliminary decision to impose a restrictive duty of 5.17 percent on steel pipes from Ukraine produced by Interpipe.
