An anti -dumping investigation regarding the import of flat rolling of iron or illegal steel, hot -rolled, non -placed, without galvanic or other coating (codes 7208.51.00 and 7208.52.00) was initiated by the Brazilian company USIMINAS, the main manufacturer of these products in the country. The company completed the 1st quarter of 2012 with a loss of $ 20 million, which explained the increase in imports against the background of weak demand and a high Real Madrid rate to the dollar.
On May 3, 2012, the Brazil government gave the go -ahead for the investigation against six countries - Australia, China, South Africa, South Korea, Russia and Ukraine. It is known that in 2011 the import of sheet into the country amounted to 2.08 million tons, decreasing by 46% compared to the record high in 2010 (3.86 million tons).
In March 2012, the import of flat rental to Brazil grew by 6% of the APP, to 169 thousand tons, and the import increase in the quarter was 18% of the APPG.
