In a special ceremony held in the capital of Brasilia, the Rio 2016 Olympic torch was presented by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. The Olympic torch was specially created by Shel & Hayashi for the Olympic Games to be held next year in Rio de Janeiro. Guests from many countries will arrive in Brazil and all world news will sanctify this event.
Shel & Hayashi made the torch from recycled aluminum, dividing it into different segments. The structure expands vertically and when the segments come into contact with the flame, they expand to reveal a series of colored areas between them. These plots represent soil, sea, mountains, sky and sun, and are colored according to the Brazilian flag - green, yellow, blue and white. This innovative element emphasizes the harmonious diversity of Brazil, captivating with its energy and exuberant character.
Each torch will be made from recycled aluminum with a resin finish, weighing up to 1.5kg. The Rio 2016 Olympic Torch is 63.5 cm high when compressed and 69 cm when unfolded. Beth Lula, director of the organizing committee for the Rio 2016 brand, explains: “The torch's design was inspired by the Olympic spirit, the nature of our country and the energy of our people. We used the specific design of the Rio 2016 torch contour, when its horizontal sections are revealed, all the diversity of Brazil is presented. "
Following the traditional Olympic flame lighting ceremony in Olympia, Greece, the Olympic flame will arrive in Brazil in May 2016 and will be handed over to 12,000 torchbearers who will carry the Olympic flame across 300 cities and towns in Brazil. By analyzing all the segments, it can be seen that the peak of the Olympic torch represents the sun, which shines for the Brazilians and illuminates their path, and the golden color acts as the ultimate goal of achievement in the games. Rio's natural beauty is evident in the green curves that reflect the many hills and valleys. The sea is expressed in blue lines of sea ripples, which are always present in the landscapes of Brazil and Rio, and the color of the earth symbolizes the Copacabana promenade, the most famous area in Rio.
