European Union steel production was 12.986 million tonnes in July and 95.752 million tonnes in seven months, in both cases, a decrease of 4.6 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively. The EU's largest producer, Germany, smelted 3.393 million tonnes of steel in July and 25.252 million tonnes over seven months, reducing output by 6.1 and 2 percent, respectively. French volumes amount to 1.15 and 8.375 million tons, respectively, with a decrease of 4.7 and 10.6 percent. Italian production in July amounted to 2.05 million tons of steel, and over seven months 14.178 million tons, an increase of 6.2 and 3.9 percent.
China in July increased production by 2.6 percent to 66.807 million tons, and since the beginning of the year recorded a decline of 0.5 percent to 466.516 million tons. Japan and South Korea found themselves in a similar situation. In July, Japan produced 8.886 million tons, an increase of 0.5 percent, and since the beginning of the year, 60.935 million tons, a decrease of 0.8 percent. South Korea, respectively, smelted 6.009 million tons, an increase of 1.5 percent, and 39.368 million tons, a decrease of 2.7 percent. In India, growth in July was 8.1 percent to 8.082 million tons, and for seven months by 4.8 percent to 54.958 million tons.
The capacity utilization rate declined by 3.7 percent year on year, reaching 68.3 percent in July.
