Serbia wants to sell Zelezara SMederevo for one dollar

The National Information Agency of Serbia Tanyug, reported the existence of a protocol drawn up as a result of Russian-Serb-seral negotiations in which there is a item on the sale of the Zelezara Smederevo plant for one dollar.

According to the agency, the Serbian authorities are going to offer to acquire the largest missile system with a capacity of 2.4 million tons of steel per year unnamed Russian investor for a symbolic fee of one dollar.

Attempts to sell the Zelezara Smederevo plant by the Serbian authorities have been undertaken since April 2012, when the tender for the purchase of a metallurgical plant was first announced. Then the application for participation in the auction was submitted by the Russian Ural Mining Metallurgical Company (UMMC), Ukrainian Donetskstal and United Pilsen S.A. Russian entrepreneur Igor Shamis.

Due to the low activity of potential buyers, the terms of the tender were repeatedly transferred, and in July 2012 the Serbian metallurgical giant stopped.

The previous owner of the plant, the American Corporation of US Steel, returned the plant to the Serbia government against its closure, having received the same compensation in one dollar.
