In the period from early January to April 15, 2017, Russian gas exports amounted to 58.5 billion m3, which is 14.7 percent higher than in the same period last year. A number of EU countries saw a significant increase in gas demand compared to last year.
Gas sales are expected to increase by Gazprom this year by as much as 16 percent. The turnover may reach $ 35 billion. In 2016, Gazprom increased gas supplies to non-CIS countries by 12.5 percent, which was a historic record.
The countries of the European Union and Turkey (the so-called non-CIS countries in the Russian nomenclature) are the most important consumers of Russian gas. Experts emphasize that the EU's dependence on Russian gas is growing. This can have serious political implications.
