Iran continues to be the leading DRI iron producer.
Preliminary figures released by the World Steel Association show that global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in June this year fell by almost 6% from the previous month. Production was 4.849 million tons, up from 5.155 million tons a month earlier.
Iran continued to be the leading DRI producer in June with a volume of 1.534 million tonnes. However, production fell sharply from 1.679 million tonnes in the previous month. Indian output totaled 1.185 million tons, down from 1.255 million tons in May. Mexico's DRI production in June this year was 535,000 tonnes, slightly lower than the 552,000 tonnes recorded in May this year. During this month, the following countries contributed significantly to global DRI production (in thousands of tonnes): Canada (90), Saudi Arabia (481), Argentina (81), Peru (Nile), Venezuela (50), Egypt (311), Libya (39), South Africa (94), Qatar (225) and the United Arab Emirates (224).
