Data released by the World Steel Association shows that world production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in July this year increased by almost 5% over the previous month. Production was 5.114 million tons, up from 4.887 million tons in the month before.
Iran continues to be the leading DRI producer with a capacity of 1.585 million tonnes. DRI output in India totaled 1.244 million tonnes, posting a slight increase from 1.202 million tonnes in June. Mexico's DRI production in July this year was 540,000 tonnes, slightly higher than the 521,000 tonnes recorded the month before.
Release of the other eleven DRI producing countries: Canada (143), Saudi Arabia (500), Trinidad and Tobago (Nile), Argentina (85), Peru (Nile), Venezuela (50), Egypt (302), Libya (30) , South Africa (60), Qatar (235) and the United Arab Emirates (350).
