Azovstal stops two coconut batteries

According to the Press Center of Metinvest, the Mariupol Metallurgical Plant Azovstal will disfabrone coke batteries No. 6 and No. 7. Metinvest managers made such a decision after the successful completion of the commissioning work by a non-fuel dusting complex at the Ilyich MMK, also included in the Metinvest MMK.

As we previously reported, the Ilyich Mariupol Metallurgical Plant intends to introduce the technology of dusty fuel in all its blast furnaces by the end of this year. The management of the Ilyich plant, thus, expects to significantly increase the profitability of blasting production by reducing production costs for natural gas, which can be completely abandoned using the above technology.

The volume of investments in the development and introduction of dust -contingent technology has already reached UAH 150 million. A sharp decrease in the consumption of coke by the Ilyich plant allowed the management of Metinvest to decide to stop the coke batteries located in the city of Mariupol, which should favorably affect the competition of the atmosphere of the city.

As a result of the coksochemical production, none of the employees will be dismissed, the press center of the Metinvest group reports, the personnel of the stopped coke batteries are already distributed to the existing vacancies of the structural units of the Azovstal plant.

"Thus, Metinvest, as a socially responsible company, consistently fulfills the obligations taken to reduce the technogenic load on the environment of the city, and, moreover, previously planned terms, stops the operation of part of production equipment," the press release of Metinvest said.
