Exports of various steel billets from the United States in October increased by 18.88% to $ 585.71 million. This is in line with the latest US trade statistics. In the first ten months of 2017, the country exported only $ 492.69 million worth of steel ingots. Exports in 2018 already exceeded exports in 2017 by USD 582.77 million.
The main trading partner in January-October 18 was Mexico. Exports to this country increased sharply by 25.85% over the previous year and amounted to about USD 249 million. In second place was Canada, which received $ 227.9 million worth of steel billets from the United States. Canadian imports from the US are up almost 11% compared to January-October 2017. Cumulative exports to Mexico and Canada accounted for more than 81% of total US shipments during this period.
Meanwhile, the country imported 6.72% more steel ingots until October this year. Imports grew from $ 698.75 million to $ 745.71 million over the previous year. The main sources of imports were Canada ($ 130.03 million), China ($ 123.39 million), Sweden ($ 66.4 million), South Korea ($ 43.4 million) and the United Kingdom ($ 40.53 million). The port of Houston was the leading gateway for imports.
