American steel industry welcomes new presidential order

The American steel industry has welcomed the President's new Buy American, Hire American Order to increase manufacturing and jobs, signed by President Donald Trump, which will provide a much-needed boost to the country's steel industry and ensure its competitiveness in the coming years.

Thomas J. Gibson, president and chief executive officer of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), said the signing of the order is another positive step towards fully implementing and enforcing existing internal procurement laws. He applauded the president for reaffirming his commitment to protecting domestic industry and creating industrial jobs.

Meanwhile, Scott Paul, president of the Alliance of American Manufacturing, noted that much remains to be done. He demanded further strengthening of American laws in Congress. In addition, he called on federal agencies to enforce laws in all areas where they currently do not apply.

The new regulation directs all agencies to make the most of US manufactured goods, including steel, in contracts, purchase orders.
