London Metal Exchange LME is in talks with officials in Guangdong, China to open a new warehouse.
LME warehouses have almost complete coverage of the major countries and regions using tin, and Asia is currently served by three warehouses located in Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. It is important to note that there is no LME in China.
LME CEO Matt Chamberlain said that "having a warehouse in mainland China will be the final piece of the puzzle for our global warehouse network."
An LME warehouse in China could enable the exchange to compete more actively with the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
