Baosteel Group, the second largest metallurgical company in the world, began to withdraw production facilities from Shanghai in response to the requirements of the city authorities to reduce pollutants into the city’s atmosphere.
Having signed the contract with the municipality of Shanghai in July 2012, Baosteel took the obligation to reduce the production of steel and metal rolling in the city by 12 million tons. Thus, approximately a third of the production capacity will be moved outside the city.
As Shanghai said in the municipal government, Baosteel will build new production workshops behind the city. Shanghai will make every effort to turn into a global financial center, even if you go to close half of industrial enterprises, if they are damaged by the ecology of the region.
Baosteel began to build its first plant in the northern Shanghai district of Baoshan at the end of 1978, in accordance with the decision of the Central leadership of the China Communist Party. This plant is one of the main donors in the Shanghai economy over the past three decades. More than 1,10,000 people work in the workshops of the station. Representatives of the Shanghai authorities acknowledge that the reduction in local Baosteel will have a negative impact on the city’s economy.
The authorities of Shanghai forced the Chinese steel giant Baosteel to transfer part of the capacity out of town to reduce air pollution
