Kazakh steel company Qarmet announced the start of construction of a new hot-dip galvanizing and polymer coating complex today, October 10, marking a key stage in the company's modernization and capacity expansion strategy.
Advanced technologies from Belgian John Cockerill
Following an international tender, Qarmet selected Belgian engineering firm John Cockerill as its equipment supplier. The company is renowned worldwide for its expertise in hot and cold rolling, continuous galvanizing and polymer coating lines, with installations in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. These technologies will allow Qarmet to achieve high product quality and production efficiency in accordance with international standards.
Expansion of production capacity
Qarmet currently operates two galvanizing lines with a total annual capacity of 592,000 tons, as well as a polymer coating line producing approximately 115,000 tons per year. The new complex will increase the company's annual production capacity to 844,000 tons of galvanized steel and 254,000 tons of polymer-coated products. It will also allow the company to produce a wider range of thicknesses and widths, expanding its product portfolio for the construction, engineering and infrastructure sectors.
Investment and economic impact
The total investment in the project is 84 billion tenge (US$155.94 million) and is expected to be operational in 2027. It will create about 350 new jobs, which will contribute to the development of the region. employment and industrial development.
The new complex will strengthen Karmet's position in the high value-added steel segment and support the growth of the metallurgical sector in Kazakhstan.
