200 years since the invention of an iron bank has been celebrated this year

200 лет с момента изобретения железной банки отмечается в этом году
This year, the branch of metallic packaging celebrates the 200th anniversary of the invention of a steel can-can.

Banks were first used as containers for power during Napoleonic wars. The idea of preserving products in sealed containers occurred to the Frenchman Nicolas Apper. He used glass jars that were sent to the French troops on the Russian front. And in 1810, British merchant Peter Duran received a patent for a way to preserve food and other perishable products using vessels made of various materials, including steel.

It is not surprising that the safety of food remains one of the most important problems that arise during food conservation. Steel packaging is with strength, security and convenience. It also provides long -term storage, which means protecting the contents from damage for a long time. In addition to these characteristics, steel in the package also has an aesthetic function. In the end, the packaging is intended not only for storing the product, but also for advertising.

Steel used for canned food is usually called tin. Tin is steel covered with a layer of tin to prevent corrosion. Although the volume of tin production is only about 1% of the total production of steel, it is a very noticeable and dynamically developing industry. Leading world brands and products are fighting for the attention of consumers on the shelves of supermarkets and other retail merchants using beautiful steel packaging.

Production processes used in the production of steel packaging are high -tech and complex. Commercial production of canned food began in 1812. The plant, located in the outskirts of London, supplied food packaged to iron banks for the British army. In 1846, cans were produced in the amount of 60 pieces per hour. Modern lines can produce up to 1000 cans per minute.

After steel is covered with tin, the resulting tin can be covered with polymers, varnishes and a beautiful advertising label. The result is an attractive, safe and functional product.

Steel occupies a unique position among packaging materials, since it is 100% secondary processing. Steel banks are the most easily processed secondary raw materials of all known types of packaging. A significant part of all steel banks can be obtained from secondly processed sources.

The data collected by WorldSteel shows that in 2007, 68% of steel cans were made from secondary raw materials, which were used canning banks.
