According to SECEX, Brazil's foreign trade body, in January of this year, Brazil exported 301,210 tons of finished carbon steel products at a price of 208.672 million US dollars, and imported 322,806 tons at a price of 238.633 million US dollars.
For comparison, Brazil exported 156,937 tons at a price of 99.638 million US dollars and imported 237,983 tons worth 172.920 million dollars in December last year.
The figures for January indicate a commercial deficit of 21,596 tons, compared with a deficit of 81,046 tons in December.
In dollar terms, there was a deficit of 29.961 million US dollars in January, compared with a deficit of 29.961 million tons in December. $72.651 million in December.
In terms of volume, the main exports in January were rolled steel (36 percent), wire rod (22 percent), rebar (18 percent) and coated flat rolled products (17 percent).
The main imports in January were coated rolled products (65 percent), rolled products (11 percent), CRC (9 percent) and steel wire (6 percent).
