According to the first estimates of Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, in December last year, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector in the member states of the European Union (EU-27) increased by 0.2 percent compared to November and remained stable compared to the same month in 2024. In November, production in the construction sector decreased by 1.5 percent month-on-month.
Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased 0.9 percent month-on-month in December and decreased 0.9 percent year-on-year. In November, production decreased by 1.5 percent month-on-month.
Construction of buildings in the EU-27 increased by 1.2 percent month-on-month in December and decreased by 0.7 percent year-on-year, while civil engineering volumes in the region increased by 3.9 percent month-on-month and 0.9 percent year-on-year. In the euro area, the volume of building construction increased by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month and decreased by 3.3 percent year-on-year, while the volume of civil engineering in the region increased by 2.3 percent month-on-month and increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year.
Compared to November, construction production in December increased by 6.6 percent in Hungary, 5.1 percent in Poland and four percent in Slovakia, while in Slovakia it decreased by 9.2 percent. In Austria, it was 3.2 percent in Slovenia and 2.3 percent in Bulgaria.
Compared to December 2024, construction volume in December this year increased by 11.6 percent in Slovakia, 10.2 percent in Slovenia and 6.6 percent in Finland, while in Austria it decreased by 12.3 percent, 4.3 percent in Belgium and 3.9 percent in Spain.
