ArcelorMittal Belgium has announced that the information and consultation phase regarding the planned closure of its specialized billets in Ghent has officially been completed.
The company had previously announced its intention to cease operations earlier this year, citing ongoing financial losses and declining vehicle production levels across Europe as key factors behind the proposed closure. , as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
Consideration of social dialogue and suggestions from employees
During the consultation process, management provided additional clarifications on the restructuring plan, while employee representatives and social partners provided questions, feedback, and counter-suggestions. According to the company, these discussions took place within the framework of a transparent and constructive social dialogue.
At the same time, representatives of ArcelorMittal and Labor jointly developed a social plan designed to mitigate the impact on affected employees during the transition period. The agreed social plan was approved by 71.11 percent of interested employees.
ArcelorMittal stated that it remains committed to supporting employees throughout the transition period and implementing all agreed accompanying measures.
After the consultations are completed, the final decision on the proposed closure of the blanks, taking into account the requirements of Ghent, will now be made by the company's board of directors.
