Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys limited (IMFA), India's largest integrated ferroalloys producer, has completed the acquisition of Tata Steel limited's ferrochromium plant in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, the company said in a statement on Monday, March 2.
The plan to acquire the Tata Steel limited plant was first announced in November 2025 and was completed at a transaction cost of 77.61 million $, the company said.
The acquisition will add 99 MVA (megavolt-amperes) of furnace capacity (66 MVA existing and 33 MVA under construction), making IMFA the world's largest producer and the sixth largest in the world with a total capacity of more than 0.5 million tons, the company said.
Spread over 115 acres in Kalinganagar in Odisha, the facility consists of four furnaces with a production capacity of 100,000 mtpa, which will further increase to 150,000 mtpa after the commissioning of the fifth kiln, the company said.
