Indian state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India limited (SAIL) has selected the company to supply key process equipment for the expansion of the IISCO steel plant in Burnpur, India, according to UK manufacturer Primetals Technologies.
Primetals said the expansion project at the IISCO steel plant in Burnpur will significantly increase the site's steelmaking capacity. Once the new capacity comes online in 2029, the installed capacity of the IISCO steel plant will reach 7.1 million tonnes per annum, which will enable SAIL to expand its production of high quality hot rolled coil (HRC) and API grade steel used in the oil and gas industry.
Pellet plant to support integrated steel production
According to Primetals, the expansion project includes the construction of a new production plant pellets with an annual production capacity of 4.2 million tons. Primetals said the pellet plant will be integrated into the IISCO steel mill's raw material supply chain, supporting the production of high-quality iron-containing raw materials for the steel industry. The project also marks the first time that SAIL will build and operate its own pelletizing plant, a departure from earlier build-own-operate (BOO) project models.
Secondary metallurgy plants for upgrading steel
According to Primetals, the equipment package also includes three ladle furnaces and two RH degassing plants, each with a capacity of 165 m. Technology
