Japan's hot-rolled sheet shipments fell 1.5 percent in January this year from the previous month and rose 3.8 percent from 619,675 tons recorded in the same month in 2025, amounting to 643,106 metric tons, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). In the reporting month, 76.1 percent of deliveries were made to the domestic market, and the remaining 23.9 percent to export markets. In the month, Japan's hot-rolled sheet production was 629,529 tons, down 4.7 percent month-on-month and up 1.4 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, hot-rolled steel shipments in Japan totaled 1.14 million tons in January, down 14.1 percent year-on-year. from the previous month and by 3.2 percent year on year. 22.4 percent of supplies were made to the domestic market, and the remaining 77.6 percent to export markets. This month, hot-rolled strip production in Japan was 1.26 million tons, down 0.3 percent month-on-month and 3.8 percent year-on-year.
