According to information published by EUROFER, in 2025, the main steel export destinations from the EU were the United Kingdom, the United States, Turkey, Switzerland and India. These five areas together accounted for 59 percent of the total exports of EU finished products. The countries that recorded year-on-year growth in exports of finished steel from the EU were Algeria with 39 percent, the United Kingdom with 5 percent, as well as India and Switzerland with an increase of one percent each.
Exports decreased across all major categories of flat rolled products, which was reflected in significant declines for cold-rolled sheets by 20 percent and flat rolled products by 11 percent. In the rolled products segment, shipments also decreased in all major categories: rebar decreased by 35 percent, wire rod by 25 percent, then heavy sections by 15 percent, and commodity ingots by nine percent.
The steel trade deficit in the EU increased markedly in 2025, reaching about 2 million tons per month, including semi-finished products, compared with 1.4 million tons in 2024. For finished steel, the deficit has increased
