Brazilian pig iron exports in August totaled 244,400 metric tons (thousand tons per year) against 342,100 tons in July, according to the Brazilian SECEX Foreign Trade secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
Pig iron exports from Brazil in August amounted to 244,400 metric tons (thousand tons per year). The decline was mainly due to a 53 percent reduction in U.S. shipments compared to the unusually high level of imports in July, when it was still unclear whether Brazilian pig iron would be exempt from higher U.S. prices. tariffs, a waiver from the US tariffs that was eventually granted.
In August, the destinations were the United States (135,700 tons at a price of $486 per ton), Italy (103,100 tons at a price of $483 per ton), Asia (5,500 tons at a price of $574 per ton) and Argentina (100 tons at a price of $564 per ton), on FOB terms.
Such prices were probably agreed in June, while the price for the BPI grade was below $500 per ton, and for the foundry grade it was above this level.
Exports were carried out by producers from the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo (203,800 tons), Para in the north (22,800 tons) and Mato Grosso do Sul (17,800 tons) in the central western region
