Brazilian producer Samarco produced 4.3 million metric tons of iron ore and pellets in the third quarter of 2026, up 10% from the previous quarter and 4% year over year. It was the company’s highest quarterly output since operations resumed in 2020.
Production for January–September reached 12.9 million metric tons, also a record for a nine-month period since the restart. Sales of ore and pellets totaled 3.9 million metric tons in July–September, unchanged from the second quarter but 5% lower than a year earlier.
Samarco’s average pellet price in the third quarter was $125.1 per metric ton FOB. That was little changed from $124.9 in the second quarter, but 4% higher than in the same period last year.
Samarco is a joint venture between Vale and BHP. The company is recovering from the 2015 collapse of the Fundão dam and expects to return to its full capacity of 26 million metric tons per year in 2028.
