Monthly steel exports in January this year increased 32.6 percent from December and fell 20.2 percent year over year to 564,864 tons, according to U.S. Commerce Department export data. In value terms, U.S. steel exports totaled $1.04 billion in January, up from $844.38 million in December and $1.18 billion in January 2025.
Steel exports to Mexico in January were up 31.2% from December and down 9.2% year over year to 325,593 tons, while exports to Canada was up 39.7% month-on-month and down 33.0% from January 2024 to 208,498 tonnes.
Other top US steel export destinations in January included China with 3,502 tonnes, Belgium with 1,974 tonnes and India with 1,533 tons.
Major steel products exported in January include 110,145 tons of HDG, 51,270 tons of hot-rolled sheets, 69,685 tons of cut-to-length steel sheets, 64,926 tons of cold-rolled sheets and 38,747 tons of coiled steel.
