In January this year, seasonally adjusted production of the construction sector in European Union member states (EU-27) fell by 0.9 percent compared to December last year and by two percent compared to the same month in 2025, according to the first estimates published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Construction sector output rose one percent month-on-month in December.
In the euro area, seasonally adjusted construction sector production fell 0.1 percent month-on-month and 1.9 percent year-on-year in January. Output increased 0.7 percent month-on-month in December.
EU-27 building construction fell 3.8 percent month-on-month and 8.4 percent year-on-year in January, while civil construction output in the region fell 4.5 percent month-on-month and 4.6 percent year-on-year. In the euro area, building construction fell three percent month-on-month and 8.9 percent year-on-year, while civil construction output in the region fell 4.4 percent month-on-month and 4.2 percent year-on-year.
Compared with December, January construction output increased 2.9 percent in Germany, 0.4 percent in the Netherlands and by 0.2 percent in Denmark, while it decreased by nine percent in Poland, by 8.8 percent in Hungary and by 5.4 percent in Slovakia.
