In January-February of this year, global steel production decreased by 1.5 percent year-on-year to 298.2 million tons.
In February, crude steel production in Asia totaled 105.3 million tons, a decrease of 1.9 percent, while China's output was 76.1 million tons, a decrease of 3.6 percent, while 6.4 million tons produced by Japan remained stable, 13.6 million tons produced by India, an increase of 7.7 percent, and 4.8 million tons produced by South Korea increased by 0.2 percent year-on-year.
The EU-27 countries produced 9.8 million tons of unrefined steel in February, which is 3.6 percent less than last year. This month, Turkey's production amounted to 3 million tons, which is 3.4 percent more than last year. Germany produced 2.8 million tons of unrefined steel in February, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same month of the previous year.
Steel production in the CIS was 6 million tons, which is 10.5 percent less than last year, while the projected production volume in Russia is 5 million tons, which is 10.2 percent less than last year.
In North America, steel production totaled 8.5 million tons in February, up 0.5 percent year-on-year, while the United States produced 6.5 million tons, up 5.8 percent year-on-year in both cases. Crude steel production in South America totaled 3.1 million tons in February, down 7.7 percent from the same month of the previous year, while Brazil produced 2.5 million tons, down 5.7 percent year-on-year.
Africa produced 2 million tons of crude steel this month, which is 4.7 percent more than last year. In the Middle East, steel production totaled 3.7 million tons, an increase of 0.1 percent
