India's Jindal Sustainable limited (JSL) has commissioned a 1.2 million tonne per annum stainless steel smelting facility (SMS) in Indonesia as part of its $5.35 billion expansion project, the company said in a statement on Wednesday, March 25.
With the commissioning of the Indonesia plant, JSL's total smelting capacity now stands at 4.2 million tonnes, the company said.
JSL has a combined smelting capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum at its Indian plants in Hisar, Haryana and Jajpur, Odisha, while the 1.2 million tonne SMS plant in Indonesia was built through a joint venture.
The company also announced an additional investment of US$844 million to increase India's cold rolled steel production capacity at Hisar and Kharagpur. West Bengal by Q2 2027-28.
With this expansion of smelting and refining capacity, the company plans to achieve sales of 3.5 million tonnes per annum by 2028-29, achieving double-digit compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next three years.
