Vietnamese steelmaker Hoa Phat Group announced that its subsidiary Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel, in collaboration with Horus Power, has launched the second phase of its rooftop solar power project.
The initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to increase energy self-sufficiency, reduce production costs and reduce carbon emissions in the steel mill industry.
Phase two adds capacity of 22.5 MWh
Phase two of the project has an installed capacity of 22.5 MWh and is expected to generate approximately 32.8 million kWh of electricity per year. Solar panels are being installed at several facilities in the complex, including rolling mills, a hot-rolled coil production plant, warehouses and water treatment systems.
The complete rooftop solar project represents an investment of nearly VND600 billion ($22.70 million) and consists of five phases. Once completed by the second quarter of 2027, the project will reach a total installed capacity of 79.2 MW and generate more than 115 million kWh of electricity per year.
When fully completed, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 78,000 tons per year. The second phase alone plans to reduce emissions by more than 22,000 tons per year, supporting Hoa Phat's decarbonization strategy.
