As the first quarter of the EU quota period from January 1 to March 31 approaches, some import quotas for certain types of steel products allocated to South Korea, China, Turkey and Macedonia have already been exhausted, while more than 70 percent of quotas for some types of steel products have been used up, according to the European Commission.
Considering exhausted quotas, South Korea used up its entire quota of 38,622 tons for electrical steel sheets (3B) and its quota of 37,148 tons for metal-coated sheets (4A), while the country exceeded its quota of 70,318 tons for organic-coated sheets, with 222 tons of products awaiting customs clearance. China exceeded its quotas of 126,937 tons and 138,863 tons for metal-coated (4B) sheets and commodity bars and light sections, respectively, with 4,468 tons and 3,386 tons of related products awaiting at EU ports. In addition, Turkey has exhausted its quota of 93,454 tons for rebar, while Macedonia has exceeded its quota of 25,948 tons for hollow sections, with 21 tons of product awaiting customs clearance.
Meanwhile, South Korea used 95.72% and 93.27% of its quota of 159,532 tons for HRC (1A) and 164,743 tons for coated metal sheets (4B), respectively, while the UK used 96.73% of its quota of 35,001 tons for coated metal sheets (4ATurkey used 92.62 percent of its quota of 105,174 tons for commercial bars and light sections, while Macedonia used 92.95 percent of its
