Global crude steel production fell 4.2 percent year-on-year to 159.9 million tons in March this year, according to the World Steel Association.

In March, steel production in Asia was 119.3 million tons, down 3.9 percent, while China produced 87 million tons, down 6.3 percent, with Japan producing 6.9 million tons, down 4.1 percent, India 15.3 million tons, up 9.4 percent, and South Korea 5.4 million tons, down 1.5 percent more than the previous year.
EU-27 countries produced 11.4 million tons of crude steel in March, down 4.6 percent from last year. Turkey's production this month was 3.3 million tons, up 6.4 percent from last year. Germany produced 3.3 million tons of steel in March, up 7.5 percent year-on-year.
In the CIS, steel production was 6.6 million tons, down 7.9 percent year-on-year, while Russia's estimated output was 5.4 million tons, down 11.4 percent year-on-year.
In North America in March, crude steel production was 9.5 million tons, an increase of 3.5% year-on-year, and in the United States - 7.2 million tons, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year. South American steel production totaled 3.6 million in March
