Japanese company Ibokin Co., Ltd. announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. to create a stable and scalable scrap supply system that supports the steel industry's transition to low-carbon production.
The growing importance of recycled raw materials
The collaboration reflects a structural shift in the steel sector, where recycled resources are becoming increasingly important due to tightening carbon regulations and the growing adoption of carbon-based steel production electric arc furnace (EAF).
As demand for scrap metal grows, supply security, quality assurance and traceability become key competitive factors.
Under the agreement, the companies will explore ways to improve efficiency throughout the scrap value chain, including dismantling, sorting, processing, distribution and reintegration into steel production. The goal is to create a more sophisticated and sustainable recycling ecosystem.
Strengthening processing and global coordination
Ibokin Co., Ltd. plans to expand its scrap recycling capabilities by improving material quality, increasing supply volumes and improving data traceability. Meanwhile, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. will leverage its global trading network and supply chain expertise to expand market access and improve international coordination.
A key element of the partnership is the use of data from dismantling and recycling processes
