According to the statement, the production of finished steel for the month is estimated at 13.05 million tons, which is 3.4 percent more than last year.
India's finished steel consumption in April 2026 was about 12.99 percent, up eight percent year-on-year, driven by demand from sectors such as infrastructure and manufacturing, the statement said.
On the global trade front, India's imports totaled 0.68 million tons during the month, while its exports totaled 0.47 million tons, up 30.8 percent and 24.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.
