V. (TYASA) announced that on May 25 it opened the first phase of its special steel production project, expanding its presence in the high-quality steel segment.
Located at the company's steel complex in Ixtaxoquitlan, Veracruz, the new plant has an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons and is aimed at meeting demand from the automotive, metalworking, oil and gas, energy and tool industries. industry, etc.
At the first stage, the company will produce round bars with a diameter of 0.5 to 4 inches, as well as hot-rolled flat bars with a width of 2-4 inches and a thickness of 5/16 inches to 1 inch. The first stage is part of the broader TYASA Special steels and SBQ project, which will also include control and conditioning lines, cold finishing lines, and heat treatment lines. It is planned that these additional lines will start operating in the third quarter of this year.
According to the company, the commissioning of the new plant marks an important step for the Mexican steel industry, as a large proportion of such products have traditionally depended on imports. With the new facilities, TYASA aims to strengthen the domestic supply of specialty steel and support the development of more sustainable and competitive supply chains for Mexican producers.
Investments in the project amounted to 250 million US dollars. During the development, construction and commissioning stages, the project has created 250 direct jobs and over 3,000 indirect jobs.
With the launch of the first phase of the special steel project, TYASA's total annual production capacity has reached 1.6 million tons. The company said the project marks the beginning of a new phase in its development, strengthening its position as the only manufacturer in Mexico working on a full range of steels, including commercial long products, flat products and specialty steels for high-performance industrial applications.
