The company stated that ore is currently being transported from the SinFer mine via a dedicated railway line to the main railway network and shipped to international customers through the port of Simandou of the Winning Consortium, reflecting the growing operational maturity of the project.
The completion of the mine is 74 percent
According to SimFer, by the end of March 2026, the construction of the mine was completed by about 74 percent. The company stated that the extensive excavation and permanent processing facilities continue to develop according to the project schedules, while the iron ore is being crushed and stored as part of capacity building activities.
Meanwhile, the SinFer port achieved 78 percent completion at the end of the first quarter, and commissioning is currently expected in the first quarter of 2027.
The railway infrastructure is fully operational
One of the key milestones achieved during this quarter was the mechanical completion of the 70-kilometer railway line of the project, which connects the SinFer mine with the Transgvinsk Main Railway line. The company also confirmed that the full commissioning of the railway was completed in the first quarter of 2026, which allows for further expansion of ore transportation activities.
In addition, three ship loaders arrived at the port of Morebaya during the reporting period, supporting preparations for future export operations.
The target capacity remains unchanged
SimFer confirmed that the project remains on track to achieve its planned annual production capacity of 60 million tonnes of iron ore in the second half of 2028.
The development of Simandou is widely regarded as one of the world's largest undeveloped projects for the extraction of high-quality iron ore and represents one of the largest mining investments currently underway in Africa.
The head of Rio Tinto Guinea, Aboubakar Coulibaly, said that the project is intended not only for development.
