Indonesia has exported $216,000 worth of high-value structural steel products to Canada, according to media reports, marking a new milestone for the country's steel industry and its efforts to expand exports of value-added products.
The products were manufactured by PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk, one of Indonesia's largest steel producers, and were officially shipped from Sikarang, West Java.
Structural steel is exported for the Canadian project
According to reports, the batch consists of metal structures that will be used in a construction project in Canada.
Exports are seen as part of Indonesia's strategy to increase overseas sales of more expensive industrial products rather than relying primarily on exports of raw materials and semi-finished products. Industry representatives said that this delivery demonstrates the ability of Indonesian steel producers to meet international quality standards and compete in developed export markets.
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry said the exports reflected the growing opportunities of the country's steel sector and supported efforts to strengthen industrial development.
Exports of structural steel to Canada are expected to support efforts to diversify export destinations and increase the international presence of Indonesian industrial products. The shipment represents a relatively small volume of exports in value terms, but it underscores Indonesia's desire to move further up the steel value chain and expand its presence in developed markets.
