The Mexican steel company TYASA has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies for the supply of a double vacuum degassing (VD) unit to its plant in Iztacoquitlan in order to increase the capacity of the smelter, increase production efficiency and expand the portfolio of high-quality steel grades.
The new plant is scheduled to start operation in October 2027 and will contribute to an increase in total steel production by increasing the productivity of the smelter and simultaneously producing larger grades of steel. the volume of steel grades with added value.
Under the contract, Primetals Technologies will supply a complete dual vacuum degassing plant, including mechanical equipment, a vacuum pump system, hydraulic and liquid systems, level 1 and level 2 automation, electrical equipment, and installation and commissioning advisory services.
The equipment has been specially designed to integrate with the existing configuration of the TYASA smelter. The plant will work together with two-bucket furnaces previously supplied by Primetals, using the same railway tracks and modified buckets. This arrangement will allow for bucket handling and vacuum degassing without additional crane manipulation, which will reduce processing time and increase work efficiency.
