In January-June of this year, total steel production in Ukraine amounted to 2.94 million tons, compared to 3.07 million tons for the same period in 2025, according to the Ukrainian steel association Ukrmetallurgprom. About 1.81 million tons, or 61.6 percent of total steel production, was exported, while 1.13 million tons, or 38.4 percent, was consumed in the domestic market. Between January and June 2025, 1.85 million tons, or 60.2 percent of total steel production, were shipped overseas, with domestic sales accounting for 1.22 million tons, or 39.8 percent of total steel production. As a result, total steel exports fell two percent and total domestic steel sales fell 7.3 percent year-on-year.
During the period, flat-rolled exports fell 8.1 percent to 795,000 tons, while semi-finished steel exports totaled 776,000 tons, up 35.9 percent year-on-year. calculus. The share of semi-finished products in exports in the first six months was 42.85 percent, significantly higher than the 30.90 percent recorded in the same period in 2025, and the share of flat products in exports stood at 43.90 percent, down slightly from 46.81 percent recorded in the same period last year. In addition, the share of long steel decreased to 13.35 percent from 22.29 percent recorded in January-June 2025.
However, during the same period, domestic steel consumption increased by 3.6 percent year-on-year to 2.01 million tons, of which 880,300 tons or 43.81 percent were imported. However, between January and June 2025, domestic steel consumption amounted to 1.94 million tons, of which 716,700 tons, or 36.97 percent, were covered by imports.
In the period from January to June, total steel imports to Ukraine amounted to 880,300 tons, which is 22.8 percent more than last year. In particular, Ukraine imported 566.7 thousand tons of flat products, decreasing by 2.4 percent year on year, while imports of long products increased by 64.3 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 246.4 thousand tons. Imports of semi-finished steel products into the country in the first six months amounted to 67.2 thousand tons against 13.7 thousand tons recorded in this period of 2025.
