The Ternium steel company reported a net profit of $465 million in the second quarter of 2026, up from $259 million in the same period last year. 2025
The company attributed the high results to increased sales and profitability. It also says that the fundamentals of the steel market in Mexico continue to improve as authorities take more effective measures against unfair trade in imported steel.
Year-on-year, net sales rose 10% to $4.340 billion, while production costs rose 1.9 percent to $3.339 billion. Gross profit increased by 54% to $941 million, while operating profit jumped by 165% to $528 million.
Ternium said that the measures taken by the Brazilian government to support fair competition have also helped improve business sentiment in the country's steel industry.
Steel shipments increased by 4% in physical terms to 3,858 million tons, while iron ore shipments increased by 1% to 3,347 million tons.
In the fourth quarter, Mexico accounted for the largest volume of steel shipments - 2.082 million tons. They are followed by Brazil with 937,000 tons, other South American countries with 519,000 tons and other regions with 320,000 tons
