MMK has resumed operation of blast furnace No. 7 after major repairs worth 4.8 billion rubles.

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), a Russian steel producer, announced the resumption of operation of blast furnace No. 7 after a one-year overhaul worth 4.8 billion rubles. The furnace has reached its operating parameters, which allows the company to carry out a program for the production of cast iron..

As a result of the modernization, the annual production capacity of the furnace increased from 1 million tons to 1.1 million tons, while reducing coke production consumption by 16 kg per metric ton of cast iron. MMK has installed new hot blast furnaces, including shaft-less hot blast furnace No. 24, which has increased the hot blast temperature to 1,250°C and, as a result, reduced production costs and improved environmental performance.

MMK has also updated most of the main furnace designs, cooling systems, valves, electrical equipment and automation systems. In addition, the plate of the sinter feed system was replaced with a belt conveyor due to the transition to cold sintering at sinter plant No. 5. The previous similar overhaul of blast furnace No. 7 was completed in 2002.
