According to data published by the Ukrainian Metallurgical Association Ukrmetallurgprom, for the period from January to July of this year, the total steel production in Ukraine amounted to 3.32 million tons, compared with 3.62 million tons for the same period in 2025. About 2.08 million tons, or 62.5% of total steel production, were exported, while 1.25 million tons, or 37.5%, were consumed in the domestic market. In the period from January to July 2025, 2.18 million tons were produced, or 60.2% of total steel production was shipped abroad, while sales in the domestic market amounted to 1.44 million tons, or 39.8% of total steel production. As a result, total steel exports decreased by 4.9%, while total domestic steel sales decreased by 13.5% year-on-year.
During the specified period, exports of flat rolled products decreased by 6.6% to 908,000 tons, while semi-finished exports of finished steel products amounted to 884,000 tons, an increase of 24.3 percent year-on-year. In the period from January to July, exports of rolled products amounted to 284,000 tons, which is 43.1 percent less than in the same period last year.
The share of semi-finished products in exports in the first seven months was 42.58 percent, which is significantly higher than the 32.58% recorded in the same period of 2025, while the share of flat rolled products in exports was 43.74%, which decreased slightly from 44.55 percent recorded in the same period last year. In addition, the share of long products decreased to 13.68 percent from 22.87 percent recorded in January-July last year. 2025.
Meanwhile, during the same period, domestic steel consumption increased by 0.7% year-on-year to 2.31 million tons, of which 1.06 million tons, or 46.05%, accounted for imports. However, in the period from January to July in 2025, domestic steel consumption amounted to 2.30 million tons, of which 862,700 tons or 37.47% were provided by imports.
For the period from January to July, the total volume of steel imports to Ukraine amounted to 1.06 million tons, which is 23.2% more than in the same period last year. In particular, Ukraine imported 707,800 tons of flat rolled products, an increase of 9.7% year-on-year, while imports of long products increased by 64.4% compared to the previous year and amounted to 286,400 tons. The country's imports of semi-finished steel products in the first seven months amounted to 68,800 tons, compared with 43,500 tons registered in the same period last year. 2025.
At the same time, the share of rolled products in imports for the same period was 66.59 percent, compared with 74.77 percent recorded in January-July 2025, while the share of long products increased to 26.94 percent from 20.19 percent recorded in the same period last year.
The main export markets for Ukraine in January-July 2026 were the 27 EU countries (81.9%), other European countries (9.6%) and the CIS (6.5%), while the main suppliers of imports to Ukraine were other European countries (49.8%), Asia (25.5%) and the EU-27 (16.0%).
