According to the Brazilian Institute of Steel Distributors INDA, their partners sold 330,200 metric tons of steel products in July compared to 317,700 tons in June.
On a similar comparative basis, purchases by INDA-affiliated distributors increased by 6% to 343,300 tons, while inventories increased by 1.1% to 1,176 million tons. This corresponds to 3.6 months of consumption, which is significantly higher than the comfort level set in the sector for 2.8 months.
July imports decreased by 26.7% to 175,400 tons, including thick-sheet, HRC-, CRC-galvanized, HDG-, pre-painted and electroplated products.
Compared to July 2025, in July 2026, sales decreased by 4.4 percent, purchases decreased by 8 percent, and imports decreased by 31.5 percent.
INDA expects purchases and sales to increase by 1.5 percent from July to August.
Market sources said that Chinese imports of HRC are expected to face anti-dumping measures, measures that have already been taken against CRC and coated flat rolled products. They added that the authorities have postponed the announcement, which is expected in October, although the deadline remains December 2026.
